BRIGHTON PRIDE: Gay Relationships Supports Pride

Pride

Gay Relationships' Matchmakers, Donna and Jess, had an incredible time supporting Pride this summer. Around 30,000 people attended Britain's largest LGBT event. Due to 2017 marking the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales, organisers were determined to make this year's festival a VERY special event. Headliners, The Pet Shop Boys, returned after 20 years. In contrast, X factor winner, Louisa Johnson, made her first appearance.

History

The first Pride festival was held in 1972 in London. It attracted around 2,000 participants. It wasn't until 1992 that the event reached Brighton. As a result, the festival has become an annual, rainbow coloured celebration of freedom. Freedom to love who we love. Free from prejudice and punishment. Progress has been slow. Each decade has bought new challenges and triumphs. Yet, Pride events give the LGBT community an opportunity to show the world how incredible it feels to be loud, proud and unashamed. Community groups, charities, dance troupes and corporate partners took part in the opening parade along the seafront. Consequently, the festival truly embraced diversity and acceptance. Festival director, Paul Kemp said: "The sun shone, the skies were blue and the faces happy as we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality, whilst recognising that not all countries are as lucky as us." At Gay Relationships, we are committed to supporting progress. Our ethos is 'Love Without Prejudice'. This provides the foundation for everything we do.
