A Look Back at Pride's History

The Stonewall Riots

On a sweltering June night, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in New York City. What was supposed to be a routine raid turned into a full-scale rebellion. Patrons, fed up with years of oppression, fought back against the officers. The Stonewall Riots, as they came to be known, became a turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.

From Protest to Pride

The Stonewall Riots sparked a new wave of activism. Just one year later, in 1970, the first Pride marches took place in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
