I’ve been thinking about this question for a long time now, and although some people do strike it lucky and find that needle in the haystack. Sadly, for most it ends up being an incredibly frustrating process, with the same predictable cycle occurring of scrolling through endless profiles, making contact, having flirty exchanges followed by arranging to meet. You get yourself ready, full of optimism and excitement to only find out 10 minutes into the date that the guy that you have invested you time and energy into only wants something casual or just a bit of late-night fun. Do not get me wrong, sex is an incredibly important part of a relationship, the problem is when that is all there is. So, it is back home to open the laptop and start the process again. The trouble is with this seemingly endless cycle it does start to affect your confidence, every time you get a knock back, a wasted evening out, you can easily lose faith and come to conclusion that maybe this is all there is. Since the pandemic dating has become even more difficult to meet that special person to share your life with. No longer are the opportunities around for you to find a partner in bars and clubs, work is also a struggle with everyone still working from home.
Grindr, Scruff, Feeld to name but a few are a great platform for fun – nothing wrong with that, but the history of how they have been developed over the years makes them not much more than that, unless you find that needle. They have and will continue to be an important place where people can experiment with their sexuality and discover themselves in an environment that holds no prejudice. But, for me the amount of time wasting, and that constant repetitive cycle means it is not a realistic way to find the security and love that a long-term relationship brings with it.
The good news is there are other options out there for you to find the man to settle down with, plan your future with and start a family with. The key to finding the love of your life is where you are looking for them. As I said earlier the opportunities are depleting but that does not mean there are no opportunities.
